So we'd barely had chance to calm down from all the fun of European Championships before Four Continents came swaggering along, dripping sequins and carried us all away. Don't resist, just follow me....
We start with a favourite of ours, a gift of a man, a gift that just keeps on giving. Daisuke Takahashi. He's changed his short program, which means of course a change in costume. His new program is 'Moonlight Sonata' and his new outfit reflects this switch to a softer, more classical style. I love the high collar on the shirt underneath the jacket and the blue accents on the collar and cuffs are simply gorgeous. Also the jacket is beauifully fited; a small but crucial detail to the success of the oufit.
We move on to an excellent example of concept dressing. Nicole Orford and Thomas Williams demonstrating here how going full throttle on a theme can really pay off. The detailing on Thomas' shirt is a nice touch but what I really love here is Nicole's outfit. The colour blocking on her outfit works beautifully and those boots are divine.
Next up Maia and Alex Shibutani. This is how to combine theme dressing and high fashion successsfully. The beading on the dress and the detail on the neckline are exquisite and the two tone flame effects on the skirt are fabulous. Plus I'd jus like to point out how amazing her hair looks.
Then we have Nan Song and Wang Yi of China who did the classic chiffon/sequins thing in different ways. Wang Yi went for a gothic, decadent Johnny Weir influenced look, while Nan Song went for an interesting East meets West fusion type look. I commend both boys for updating a figure skating staple with a modern twist.
And finally we finish off with two marvellous takes on the matador look. Regular readers know I'm a big fan of a flamboyant flamenco routine and everything that goes with it. And this is no exception. Both boys are fully demonstrating the Fashion Files golden rule; the best accessory is a full quota of confidence and swagger.
See you all at worlds!
