The end of a Dream

Well it looks like our title hopes are pretty much dashed. There could be some sort of miracle (which I will continue to hope for) but pragmatically speaking our part in the race is run.
Nevermind, there's always next year. Its pretty hard tto say but its also true. The past few weeks have been extremely difficult causing me no end of stress and actual heart-rending pain. BUT overall its been a pretty good season. I've been pretty damn proud of those boys a lot of the time and a little blip at the end of the season isn't going to change that. So with that in mind, I'm looking back over the season at moments of improvement and reasons to be cheerful for next season.

1. We finally beat Chelsea in the league, with a glorious performance and some stunning goals.
2. We beat Barcelona. A steely performance full of fighting spirit and a mini coming of age for Jackie Wilshere.
3. Robin van Persie. What a man. Striking in all senses of the word. He should be made team captain this very instant. He has a wondrous little streak of swagger and attitude and you can see how much he cares. Watching him get attitudey and square up to people makes me want to get out of my seat and cheer.
4. The boy Chesney. What a keeper he's going to be. Six foot five and full of confidence, he dominates his area, he yells at his defence and he isn't afraid to come sliding out. He's emerging as quite the favourite at HQ this season.
5. Emmanuel Eboue's developing career as a cheerleader. Its truly heart-warming and inspiring to see the level of enthusiasm this man has even on the sidelines. Team spirit personified.
6. Our great cup runs. We had some really exciting games in both FA and Carling Cup this year and can be very proud of our runs in both.
7. The football we've played. I've seen some delightful games this year courtesy of our boys and at times the football has been nothing short of scintillating. The derby comes to mind. Samir Nasri's solo goals earlier in the season too.

So as you can see all is not lost. We've got plenty to build on for next season where we will truly have a chance to to win stuff. But what we all need to remember is that we've already won the best prize; being a gooner.
