Fashion Files - mid season swing

So the grand Prix series has brought us some brilliant skating, some great new programs and some surprising results. But as well as all that the Grand prix series also brings us another gift. A gift that keeps on giving. The gift of figure skating fashion. Let's go through the looking glass ice fans.
First up Daisuke Takahashi. I love this look, its simple but effective. The jacket is beautifully retro and has gorgeous lines. The theme is rock and roll and in this outift Daisuke looks like a rock star, an old school rock star.
Now we covered accessorizing with Takahiko Kozuka, who matched his tissue box to his outfit. And now we have Yuzuru Hanyu showing us another approach to tissue accessorizing. Instead of decorative, Yuzuru has gone for functional here with a box that doubles as a handy teddy bear and guarantees automatic post routine hugs.

Here we have yet another lesson in off ice fashion from the ever wonderful St Stephane. He really knows how to put a look together. Well-cut jeans, a very smart coat and very well chosen accessories with the lovely scarf. THIS is how to do off duty smart-casual people.
Then we have Maxim Trankov and Tatiana. Here teaching us how to dress for a theme. Theirs is 'The Godfather.' The brilliance in this look is in the detail; Tatiana's jewellery, Maxim's rosary, the classy two tone in his waistcoat and of course his pencil moustache.
Now the fabulous Johnny Weir. This is just glorious. Asymmetric, sequins, feathers, mesh and an ace of hearts on his glove. Never change Johnny, we love you and your fashion.
Another awesome case of theme dressing. This is Nelli Zhiganshina channelling Moulin Rouge for 'El Tango de Roxanne'. Its a very brave costume and she's rocking it, proving the old fashion adage "its not what you wear its how you wear it."
And on that note goodnight fashion fans.

  1. I really love Daisuke's costume. Like you said, it's simple but effective. And it suits him very well.
Hanyu's so sweet! Then again, he's only 17.
Maxim and Tatiana are just great in those costumes! Her dress and jewellery, his waistcoat and his rolled up sleeves. And yes, I like even his moustaches!
And what about Johnny's costume? It is so Johnny! We missed him so much in competition! Hope it will be ok for nationals.
