International Women's Day

Today is International Women's Day! Happy Women's day everyone. Since this blog is pretty boy-centric usually and since of course it is run by a woman, I decided that today on Sports Wall we're going to pay tribute to some of the fantastic ladies making sports great.

Sian Massey - Firstly lets salute a woman making it in a man's world. A woman who showed tremendous dedication to her job in the face of frankly ridiculous pressure. A top lady lineswoman.
Martina Navratilova - Possibly THE ultimate great woman of sport. She holds the all time record for the most titles won by any player (an astonishing 167 in singles and 177 in doubles)A seriously hardcore and inspiring woman.
Yelena Isinbayeva - She's a two time olympic champ, five time world champ and the current world record holder. An absolute colossus of her sport (pole vaulting.)
Blanka Vlasic - Two time world champion, and current european champion of high jump. She's incredible to watch. Both her and Yelena are absolutley electrifying to watch in competition, amazing ambassadors for athletics.
Yuko Kavaguti and Natalie Pechalat - Queens of the ice. The epitome of grace. They show us all how to make sport an art form.
The hockeyroos - Australia's Commonwealth gold medal winning hockey team. A seriously kick ass bunch of girls. They make me proud to be a girl and actually want to get up and play sports.
And finally my heroine, an absolute goddess of a woman. A woman who is feisty, charismatic and hard-working. She's eternally classy. She's a survivor who has faced adversity with grace and aplomb. Sylvie van der Vaart.
